Fitting Fundos

Spiral Nautilo

Step 1

The spiral shape is appropriate for domestic installation, as well as opening up new concepts for commercial use in swimming baths, theme pools and health clubs. The Fundo Spiral has nine parts - the base unit (see right) and eight 50mm thick pre-curved wall sections. The base unit has a groove on its outer edge into which the wall units are slotted. The base is available as left or right hand entrances. Click here for dimensions.

After installing the exclusive Fundo drain unit, which must be used with the system (see our Fitting Overview) the recess (bright blue on the picture) is coated with wedi Adhesive and Sealant so the wall sections can be bonded in.

Step 2

The eight sections of the partition are joined by a 6mm fillet of wedi Tilebacker Board which slots into grooves in each wall section. The joints are then covered with wedi reinforcement tape bonded in cement-based flexible adhesive.

PU or hybrid sealing compound is then applied to the joint between the base and the partition walls (see below). The transition from the surrounding area to the base unit is made with wedi Waterproof Sealing Tape in cement tile adhesive

Step 3

Once the adhesive has set, tiling can commence. It is essential to use a flexible cement-based adhesive that is suited to tiling in wet areas and to use a maximum tile size of 5cm.

When the tiling adhesive has set, the tiling can be finished with a grout that is manufactured for wet areas.

While wedi Fundo is primarily used for tiled finishes, because of its excellent water resistant properties, it is possible to put other finishes on non-wetted areas. Please consult the manufacturers on the suitability of other finishes.
